Remote Playoff Hopes Dashed In Heartbreaking Loss

Saturday December 24, 2016

Bills Blitz: Allen Franks hit a 55 yard field goal with :06 left in regulation than nailed a 27 yarder with less than a minute left in overtime to give Miami a wild 34-31 overtime victory that ends the Bills playoff hopes. Tyrod Taylor hit Charles Clay with his second touchdown of the game with 1:20 left to allow the Bills to erase three 14 point deficits and give them the lead. Dan Carpenter missed two field goals including one in overtime that would have given them the lead. The Bills had a franchise record 589 yards in the loss. Taylor had his first 300 yard passing game while LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins both went way over 100 yardsThere will be no grades this week. Don't think people want to ruin their holidays reading them. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: Stephon Gilmore went down in overtime as he was shaken up when he took a shot to the head. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: Cordy Glenn is inactive for a second straight week with his back injury. He had been listed as doubtful but his fate was sealed when he couldn't practice on Thursday. Lerentee McCray is inactive for a third straight game with his concussion after being ruled out on Friday. Kyle Williams led the list of questionable players that will play. They all are active except Jerel Worthy who may be inactive because of his shoulder injury or because of a numbers game. The healthy scratches are Logan Thomas, Gerald Christian, Dez Lewis, and Cardale Jones.

Gameday Weather: They will be some precipitation around for this Christmas Eve game but instead of it being snow it will be rain. It should also only be around during the tailgate parties. Rain should end before the game starts and it should be just cloudy during the game with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. The wind will be out of the West at 14mph at kickoff.

Final Injury Report: The Bills didn't make Rex Ryan available to the media since the game is tomorrow. They did release their final injury report for the week and Cordy Glenn is listed as doubtful for the game. Lerentee McCray has been ruled out for a third straight week. All the players that were limited in practice yesterday are listed as questionable and it would appear they will all be available for the game tomorrow. All the players that were full go are not on the report. Injury Page.

Kyle Back; No Glenn: Kyle Williams is on schedule to play on Saturday after returning to practice today. He missed the first two days of practice last week and this week with his back injury but has been gutting it out during the games. Rex Ryan fully expects him to play on Saturday joking that "he has no choice." Jordan Mills returned to his right tackle spot after being out sick yesterday. Cyrus Kouandjio slid to left tackle to replace Cordy Glenn who sat out practice today after being limited yesterday. It looks like he may miss his second straight game with his back problems as Ryan was not optimistic he will be able to go. Lerentee McCray will almost certainly miss his third straight game as he remains in concussion protocol and hasn't returned to practice. Jerry Hughes was full go, along with Tyrod Taylor, LeSean McCoy, and Shaq Lawson, after being limited on Wednesday with a hamstring injury. John Miller, Jerome Felton, Preston Brown, Sammy Watkins, Jerel Worthy, Charles Clay, joined Williams as limited. Injury Page.

Game Preview: AFC East rival Miami comes to town looking to take another step towards clinching a wild card spot. The Bills are looking to keep their less than razor thin playoff hopes alive while putting a dent in the Dolphins playoff march. The Bills are also looking to avenge their loss earlier this year when they blew an 11 point second half lead. Miami will be without their starting QB Ryan Tannehill who is out with a knee injury. Veteran Matt Moore is a capable backup who threw four touchdown passes in a win over the Jets last week. Game Preview.

Coughlin The Next Coach? Crazy season is getting a head start as the rumours have already begun as to who will replace Rex Ryan who hasn't been fired yet and the team is 7-7 and still technically alive for a playoff spot. Pro Football Weekly is reporting that the Pegulas have grown tired of Ryan's antics and have decided Tom Coughlin will be their next head coach. The report says Coughlin is itching to get back on the sidelines and talks have begun over the past couple of weeks. The Bills reportedly were interested in Coughlin helping out as a consultant last offseason.

Pro Bowl Alternates: The Bills have seven players who were named alternates to the Pro Bowl according to the Buffalo News. Richie Incognito and Kyle Williams are first alternates meaning if a DT or OG drop out from the AFC they would be in the game. Stephon Gilmore is a second alternate. Zach Brown and Jerome Felton are also alternates but couldn't tell the Buffalo News which position they were in. The team also announced that Tyrod Taylor and Brandon Tate are alternated as well. The way players drop out of this game along with Super Bowl players not being available means these players have a decent chance at being Pro Bowlers.

Several Return: The Bills were back on the practice field today for what normally would be their Thursday workout. Sammy Watkins, Cordy Glenn, and Preston Brown returned to the field today. Kyle Williams sat out again to rest his back. This was the same schedule he was on last week when he only practiced on the final day of the practice week. Jordan Mills also sat out practice today with an illness while Lerentee McCray remains sidelined with a concussion. Jerome Felton, Jerry Hughes, Jerel Worthy, and John Miller were also limited. Injury Page.

Two Pro Bowlers: Lorenzo Alexander and LeSean McCoy are the two members of the Bills to make the Pro Bowl. Alexander will make his first appearance in the game as a linebacker but second overall as he was selected as a special teamer in 2012. He is the first Bills LB to make it since Takeo Spikes in 2004. He was named a starter next to Von Miller. McCoy is the second reserve behind Le'Veon Bell and is the first Bill RB to make the Pro Bowl in consecutive years since Thurman Thomas went to five straight during the Super Bowl era. It is his fifth appearance in the game and fourth consecutive selection. He is fifth in the league in rushing but first in yards per carry. It's a little disappointing and surprising that Kyle Williams was past over for a bid. Others that cases could have been made for are Jerome Felton, Zach Brown, and Richie Incognito. Some of them may be alternates but they have not been announced yet.

Back To Work: The Bills are back on the field today on media day as the entire schedule is pushed up a day because of the Saturday game this week. Not surprisingly Kyle Williams sat out practice to rest his back. He was in a lot of pain after the game on Sunday. Sammy Watkins also sat out as expected to rest his foot. Rex Ryan said he's not 100% which is a given at this point. Preston Brown is a new name on the injury report as he sat out with a foot injury as well. Lorenzo Alexander gets a rest day again this week after taking every defense snap last week. Charles Clay sat with his knee problem as he normally does early in the week. Lerente McCray remains sidelined in concussion protocol. Injury Page.

What's Next? The Bills got the victory they had to have to avoid embarrassment, now what is next for this franchise? Tony Bogyo takes a look at the future of the team without really knowing what he thinks will be best for the team. I'm sure many fans, including myself, are in the same boat. The Bills are really in a tough situation. Complete Story.
