Bills Save Face With Win Over Cowboys

Gameday Grades: The defense didn't give up a touchdown and the offense had another stellar day running the football. It all added up to a Bills victory. Gameday Grades.

Bills Blitz: Mike Gillislee ran 50 yards for the game clinching touchdown with 2:25 to go to lift the Bills to a 16-6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. The drive happened after both teams traded turnovers in the fourth quarter that kept the game a three point game. The only other points scored in the second half was a 32 yard third quarter field goal by Dan Carpenter. It was a sluggish first half for both teams. Tyrod Taylor hit Gillislee on a 14 yard screen pass to setup a Karlos Williams one yard touchdown run but Carpenter missed his league high 5th extra point of the season. Dan Bailey hit two of three field goal attempts in the opening half and the Kellen Moore led Cowboys were held scoreless in the second half. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: Marcus Easley suffered a leg injury when covering a punt in the 2nd quarter. He was carted off the field in a lot of pain. His left leg was immobilized and he did not return. Marcel Dareus got his shoulder banged up and his return was initially listed as probable but he went to the locker room, was downgraded to questionable, and then was ruled out in the third quarter. John Miller aggravated his ankle injury and left the game in the second half. Manny Lawson left the game in the fourth quarter shaking his right arm. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: Ronald Darby is inactive for this game. He was listed as questionable but he isn't able to go. He joins three players who were ruled out on Friday as Nigel Bradham, Charles Clay, and LeSean McCoy won't play. This doesn't include several players who were put on injured lists this week. They are three healthy scratches Josh Johnson, Max Valles, and Lavar Edwards will not dress for the game. For the Cowboys, Dez Bryant and Morris Claiborne didn't make the trip because of injuries.

Wintry Weather Finally Arrives: With two games at home to wrap up the season the odds of seeing wintry weather are very good. Today's game will be played in mostly rain with some snow showers possibly mixed in before the game is over. Heavier rain during the tailgating this morning will give way to lighter showers during the game with a gametime temperature of 41°. The wind will be out of the North Northwest at 15mph.

3 Ruled Out: The Bills have ruled out Charles Clay, LeSean McCoy, and Nigel Bradham with their injuries. The team was hopeful Clay would return but he seemed to suffer a setback with his back injury. Ronald Darby did very little in practice today and is listed as questionable but unlikely to play. For the Cowboys Dez Bryant is listed as doubtful after not practicing all week because of his foot injury. Injury Page.

Four Sit Out: Nigel Bradham, LeSean McCoy, Ronald Darby, and Charles Clay all sat out practice today putting their availability for Sunday's game in doubt. Rex Ryan said they are preparing like McCoy won't play. Clay, Bradham, and Darby practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday before sitting on Thursday. Clay had been expected to return this week but may have suffered a setback with his back injury. Mario Williams was added to the report with a hand issue, he was limited. Bacarri Rambo practiced on a limited basis after sitting on Wednesday. He expects to play. The Bills will practice on Christmas Day. Injury Page.

Polian To Return? Last year when the Pegulas were flirting with hiring a football czar Bill Polian was the man they wanted. He decided against it because he was about to go into the Hall of Fame and he didn't want to deal with a new coaching search. With Rex Ryan now in place, for better or worse, Polian is now flirting again with rejoining the organization as a consultant, not a football czar. Polian spoke to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News and said the Bills are the only team he would consult for. He spoke to Terry Pegula as recently as a month ago to talk about what the team needs to do going forward. Polian told Carucci the team needs to upgrade their aging and unathletic offensive line and find a backup QB along with an eventual franchise QB. He said Tyrod Taylor is not the franchise guy but he can be the starter next year. He also said they can win with him if they have a lot of Pro Bowlers.

Cowboys Game Preview: The Bills begin to play out the string with the first of two home games to close out the very disappointing season. A victory would be meaningless except it would likely stop the griping to the media that has taken place recently. It is hard to see this team finding any motivation against any team even the woeful Cowboys who will be starting their 4th quarterback of the season at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday. Complete Preview.

Injury Update: LeSean McCoy and Bacarri Rambo sat out practice on Wednesday. McCoy was walking around with a slight limp. Rambo is battling a knee injury. Ron Brooks practiced fully as he should be returning after being out with a concussion. Charles Clay will play this week as he has been taken off the injury report. Limited in practice on Wednesday were Stefan Charles, John Miller, Karlos Williams, Nigel Bradham, Walt Powell, Eric Wood, Boobie Dixon, and Ronald Darby. Injury Page.

McCoy To Pro Bowl: LeSean McCoy was selected for the Pro Bowl which will be played on January 31st in Hawaii. He is the lone Bill and one of six running backs selected. It will be his fourth Pro Bowl appearance. He also went in 2011, 2013, and 2014. Richie Incognito, Marcel Dareus, Eric Wood, and Tyrod Taylor are listed as alternates.

Roster Moves: The Bills made a flurry of roster moves today which was expected with several injuries and just two weeks of football left to play. The team activated three players from the practice squad, signed one player, placed three others on injured lists and released a player all while adding a quarterback to the practice squad. They placed Robert Woods and Randell Johnson on injured reserve with injuries suffered on Sunday that won't heal before the season ends. They placed Seantrel Henderson on the Non Football Injury list ending his season as he battles Crohn's Disease. They also released Marcus Thigpen. The four spots were filled by three wide receivers and a defensive tackle. That activated 7th round draft pick Dezmin Lewis and fellow receiver Walter Powell from the practice squad along with DT Jerel Worthy. They also signed former Jet WR Greg Salas. He led the Lions in receptions in the preseason before suffering a knee injury in the preseason finale against the Bills. The team filled one of the open practice squad spots by adding QB Zac Dysert. He was a 7th round draft pick of the Broncos in 2013. He also spent time with the Bears and the Texans. Depth Chart.

TE Added To Practice Squad: The Bills have replaced one tight end with another on their practice squad. The team has signed Jacob Maxwell to replace Marcel Jensen who was signed by the Redskins yesterday. Maxwell entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2014 with the Lions. He also spent time with the Bears and the Dolphins. Front Office Page.

Woods Likely Out: Rex Ryan updated the lengthy injury situation today during his press conference. He said Robert Woods has a bad groin injury and will likely be shutdown for the last two games. If he goes on injured reserve it is likely that Dezmin Lewis will be activated off the practice squad. He may see game action too as the coach said he may take a look at young players over the next two weeks but not at the expense of winning. Boobie Dixon battled through a knee injury against the Redskins while Stefan Charles suffered a strained shoulder. LeSean McCoy is undergoing an MRI today but Adam Schefter is reporting he has a torn MCL while Ian Rapoport is reporting it is a strain. He is expected to miss this week's game but may be available for the finale. I find it hard to believe the Bills would risk playing him again this year. Nigel Bradham had a setback in his return from an ankle injury while John Miller aggravated his high ankle sprain but may be available this week. Randell Johnson suffered a high ankle sprain of his own which could end his season. Aaron Williams will not play the rest of the season while Chris Hogan injured his wrist but is ok. Charles Clay has a chance at returning as his back has improved. Injury Page.

The December Flop: Another year of watching other team's battle for a playoff spot is upon us. Tony Bogyo breaks down the pathetic loss in DC in his latest column as we continue with our tradition of flopping in December. Complete Story.
