Bills Season Ending Loss Filled With Irony

Drew Bledsoe - AP Photo Failing Grades: In a 31-0 loss you can expect failing grades all around and that is pretty much what you had in this pathetic loss to close out a pathetically disappointing season. Gameday Grades.

Pats Blowout Bills: The Patriots showed how far they have come and how far the Bills have fallen by lambasting the Bills by the same 31-0 score that the Bills beat them on opening day. The Pats opened up a 14-0 lead early in the game and never looked back. The Bills turned the ball over four times including twice in the fourth quarter inside the 10 yard line when they could have broken the shutout. Drew Bledsoe and the patchwork offensive line, missing Ruben Brown were pathetic as the team just quit today. We will have our complete review in a little bit. Game Review.

Shaw Injured: Bobby Shaw was injured on the opening possession of the game in the loss to the Patriots. He did not return as he was landed on after a running play. Mark Campbell was also banged up late in the game when he took a hit while catching a pass but he did return. Injury Page.

Gameday Weather: At least the Bills will have a nice day to finish out this dreadful season. It will be 39° and Sunny at kickoff with no wind and no chance at precipitation. It should be perfectly good weather for the Patriots to put an end to the misery that has been the 2003 Bills season.

Brown Out: Ruben Brown did not accompany the team to Boston and will not play in the season finale against New England. Brown has not practiced all week and hasn't even been with the team for personal reasons. The team has not said much about Brown's absence all week but they did say he has not been suspended. Without Brown, the Bills may be starting three backups on the offensive line. Brown's future with the team has been called into question in recent weeks. He was caught by TV cameras telling a former teammate that he would not be back in Buffalo next year. The Bills will likely revamp the entire offensive line in the off season.

Williams Decision Will Wait: Don't expect Gregg Williams to be fired on Sunday or even Monday. Tom Donahoe has indicated that he will wait until the end of next week to decide on the coach's fate. The two will get together early next week to discuss the future. Williams contract technically goes until the end of January but Donahoe does want to get on with the off season as quickly as possible.

Williams Practices: Mike Williams returned to practice today helping his chances of playing in the season finale on Sunday. Ruben Brown and Alex Van Pelt missed the workout today. Van Pelt is unlikely to play on Saturday because of a wrist injury and Brown has missed the last two days for personal reasons.

Van Pelt Out? Officially Alex Van Pelt is listed as questionable for Saturday's finale but he told WGR radio that he doesn't expect to suit up. Van Pelt injured his wrist during pregame warmups before the Miami game. If he can't go, Travis Brown will back up Drew Bledsoe. The only other injured Bill, Mike Williams, hopes to practice later in the week. Injury Report.

Christmas Bills Style: On this the day before Christmas, our own Tony Bogyo takes a look at a classic Christmas Eve tale with a Bills spin to it of course. Complete Story.

Two On Report: The Bills listed two players as questionable on the injury report for the Patriots game. Both Alex Van Pelt and Mike Williams are on the report. Van Pelt has a wrist injury that made him unavailable for the Miami game and Williams has a knee injury that also made him miss the Dolphins game. Van Pelt hurt his wrist in the pregame warmups last week. Neither player has practiced yet this week and they will look at them later in the week to see about their availability for the finale. Injury Report.

Game Could Get Ugly: With the Patriots out for revenge and homefield advantage through the playoffs on the line, Saturday's finale could get very ugly for the Bills. Buffalo seemed to pack it in last week against Miami and it doesn't seem like they will muster the energy for one final good showing for the probable last game of Gregg Williams. Game Preview.

Bills Practice Today: Since the Bills play on Saturday this week, they had yesterday off instead of their normal Tuesday day off. The team is practicing today and the coach did not do his usual post mortem address yesterday.

Monday December 22, 2003

Players Upset: The Players have finally spoke up about what everyone has been thinking all season. The offensive play calling stinks. Marcus Price said they should have dominated but they didn't because they din't stick with what they do best. London Fletcher was frustrated by the fact the Dolphins played on a short field all day long. Fletcher told reporters with a wink, "their offensive coordinator understood the way the game was being played."
