‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
2003 Buffalo Bills Version
by Tony Bogyo
December 24, 2003

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Bills Drive
Not a creature was stirring, the offense was barely alive;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that end of the season soon would be there;

The players were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of January tee times danced in their heads;

And Donahoe in his 'kerchief, and Williams in a cap,
Had just settled down and continued their season-long nap,

When out in the field house there arose such a clatter,
Donahoe sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window he flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon showed the new-fallen snow on the ground,
Hiding from tough questions all season the pair had finally been found,

When, what to his wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight players in full gear,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
he looked like Ralph Wilson but moved like Mike Vick

More rapid than eagles his players they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Adams! now, Schobel! now, Takeo and Denney!
On, Bledsoe! on Moulds! on, Morman and Henry!

To the top of the standings! to the top of the league!
Now dash to glory! dash to greatness! dash away Trey Teague!"

As confetti that after a touchdown does fly,
Like a ball in Gilbride’s game plan, they took to the sky,

So up to the stadium-top the players they flew,
With the sleigh full of free agents, and Mr. Wilson too.

And then, in a twinkling, Donahoe heard on the seats
The stamping and stomping of each big pair of cleats

As he drew in his hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney Mr. Wilson came with a bound.

He was dressed all in 2005 Super Bowl gear, from his head to his foot,
If the Bills were to win it they couldn’t stand put;

A bundle of free agents he had flung on his back,
he shouted at Donahoe, ”Time to get the offense back on track!”

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
”Fire Williams and Gilbride, the fans have grown wary!”

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
Donhoe knew in an instant those two clowns must go;

The grip on the clipboard he held in his hands,
Donahoe knew that the owner had drawn up big plans;

He had a broad face and a look of determination in his eyes,
Donahoe knew this fellow loved Bills Nation and heeded their cries.

He was strong and energetic, a right jolly old elf,
Donahoe thought of his personnel mistakes and nearly wet himself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon told TD he had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

A speed receiver, an O-Line, a big-time D-End,
Bringing these gifts would put the Bills back on the mend;

Then he sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew away as the coaches got their dismissal.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."
