Bills Lose Big Game In Kansas City

Gameday Grades: The offense got off to a hot start than fizzled in the second half. The defense dominated early but than had a stellar collapse allowing more big plays against the Chiefs than KC likely has had all year. Gameday Grades.

Bills Blitz: It was the Sammy Show early but Alex Smith became the second coming of Tom Brady throwing the deep ball effortlessly in leading the Chiefs to a come from behind 30-22 victory over the Bills. It was the combination of Tyrod Taylor and Sammy Watkins in the first half that allowed the Bills to jump out to a 16-7 lead in the 2nd quarter before the wheels fell off. Taylor threw for 236 yard in the first half finding Watkins six times in nine targets for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Smith had his own hot receiver in Jeremy Maclin who had two long pass plays, one for a score and one was incomplete but the Bills didn't challenge the wrong call on the field. That setup the first Chiefs touchdown. The Bills had too many blunders for an important road game including LeSean McCoy and Taylor both losing fumbles and Dan Carpenter missing an extra point while Rex Ryan completely mishandled the use of challenges failing on two of them and not challenging two plays he should have. The Chiefs scored 17 unanswered points to capture a 24-16 lead in the third quarter. McCoy caught a touchdown pass from Taylor but the Bills were chasing the missed extra point and failed on a 2 point conversion attempt. The Chiefs would drive down for two fourth quarter field goals while keeping the Bills in check the rest of the way for the victory. Bills Blitz.

Injury Update: Karlos Williams injured his left shoulder in the first quarter. His return was listed as questionable when he went off into the locker room but he did not return. Nigel Bradham suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter and did not return. Alex Carrington suffered a right knee injury in the third quarter and was carted off the field and quickly ruled out. Ronald Darby came out to be checked for a concussion but quickly returned to the game after getting checked out in the locker room. Injury Page.

Gameday Inactives: After getting a break from the injury bug last week, the Bills are banged up once again. Four players were ruled out on Friday as Kyle Williams, Mario Williams, John Miller, and Marcus Easley are inactive with injuries. The healthy scratches are Cyrus Kouandjio, Josh Johnson, and Ryan Groy. That means Jordan Mills is active over Kouandjio for a second straight game so he likely has past him on the depth chart as Kouandjio seems to also still be stuggling with his knee problems.

Cold And Rainy Day: Weather will be a factor at Arrowhead Stadium for today's huge game between the Bills and the Chiefs. Showers are possible throughout the game with a gametime temperature of 37°. The winds will be out of the ENE at 7mph.

Bills Lose A Watkins: The Philadelphia Eagles signed Sammy Watkins' brother Jaylen Watkins off of the Bills practice squad. The corner may matchup against his older brother in three weeks when the Bills travel to the city of Brotherly Love. That opens up a spot on the practice squad and may have another if they elevate someone from that unit to take Kyle Williams' spot on the 53 man roster. Front Office Page.

Mario Out; Kyle's Season Over: Rex Ryan said today that Kyle Williams will undergo season ending surgery on his injured knee. He was optimistic earlier in the week but the latest tests showed he needed surgery. He will likely head to injured reserve to open up a roster spot. The team has three other players that won't play against Kansas City on Sunday as Mario Williams, Marcus Easley, and John Miller have been ruled out after not practicing all week. Tyrod Taylor is good to go and is listed as probable along with Marcell Dareus and Bacarri Rambo. Injury Page.

Mario Expected To Sit: Rex Ryan said after yesterday's practice that Mario Williams is not expected to play on Sunday. He joins John Miller, Kyle Williams, and Marcus Easley as players that will be inactive because of injury. Tyrod Taylor, Bacarri Rambo, and Marcell Dareus were limited for a second straight day but all three are expected to play. Injury Page.

Taylor Resumes Throwing: As expected Tyrod Taylor was back on the practice field today and was throwing after not passing during Wednesday's walkthrough. He is expected to play on Sunday. Injury Page.

Chiefs Game Preview: The Bills head to Kansas City to play a game at a place that has given them nightmares over the year. The game at Arrowhead is as huge as it gets for week 12 of the season. The Bills and Chiefs are two of four 5-5 teams currently battling for a coveted wildcard spot in the AFC with the Chiefs flying high on a four game winning streak allowing just three TDs during that span. The winner of this game will have a huge advantage in the tiebreakers for a spot in the postseason. Complete Preview.

Taylor Doesn't Throw: The Bills held a walkthrough practice today at One Bills Drive and while Tyrod Taylor was limited in practice officially, he did not throw a pass. He spoke to the media after practice and said he's fine for Sunday and will throw tomorrow. Marcell Dareus and Bacarri Rambo were also limited. As expected Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, John Miller, and Marcus Easley did not practice. Only Mario seems to have any shot at playing on Sunday. Injury Page.

Roster Moves: The Bills fixed a mistake by releasing Denarius Moore and Boom Herron and bringing back WR/returner Marcus Thigpen. Herron was inactive this past week and not needed with three healthy running backs on the roster. They used his roster spot to sign G Ryan Groy who was orignially an undrafted free agent signed by the Bears in 2014 where he worked with current OL coach Aaron Kromer. He was most recently with the Patriots before being released Oct. 1st. He adds depth with the injury to John Miller. Depth Chart.

Taylor Should Start: Rex Ryan addressed the media today in his usual media day press conference. He said he thinks Tyrod Taylor will play on Sunday. He is feeling better today than he was yesterday and he is leaning on the doctors with this and they feel he will be ready. The team is going to have a walkthrough today and he is expected to participate fully. The coach also feels good about Marcell Dareus and Bacarri Rambo playing on Sunday as both players finished the game on Monday night. He isn't sure about Mario Williams but the visual is not good as he is running around on a scooter not putting pressure on his injured foot. The coach doesn't think Marcus Easley will be ready as he is in concussion protocol. The coach is more optimistic about Kyle Williams returning before the season is finished than he was last week. He said the latest MRI gives them more hope he will return. The team will have another defensive lineman up for this game as they were so thin on Monday night they almost used Richie Incognito on defense near the end of the game. Other snippets from the coach, he knows this is a huge game and the Chiefs present different problems for them as Alex Smith doesn't turn the ball over and they do a lot of screen passes. That will force the defense to do different things than they did Monday night. He feels Taylor is one of the better deep ball passers in the league but he wasn't against the Pats. Injury Page.

Frustrating Loss: The latest loss to New England was frustrating but as Tony Bogyo explains in his latest article it was something we have grown accustomed to when the Bills battle their arch nemesis Patriots. He breaks down the game and all the frustration that goes along with their latest loss. Complete Story.

Practice Squad Move: The Bills swapped defensive players on the practice squad yesterday. They added DE Jerel Worthy and released LB Kevin Reddick. Worthy was a 2nd round draft pick of the Packers in 2012 and started 4 of 16 career games with them and has 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble in his career. He was most recently in training camp with the Lions. He adds depth to the line with Mario Williams battling a foot injury. Front Office Page.
