Quiet Month Of February

Bills Looking At Cromartie: The Rex Ryan connection to former New York Jets is continuing this offseason as their is a report that recently released CB Antonio Cromartie will be in Buffalo to visit with the Bills. He does not have to wait until March 9th to sign with another team since he was released before the start of free agency.

Report Says Bills To Tender Glenn: Ian Rapoport reported that the Bills indeed will slap the franchise tag on Cordy Glenn if they can't reach a longterm deal the tag deadling on Tuesday. Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News reported talks at a deal have begun and the preliminary talks have gone well. The tag is not a surprise since the Bills can't allow their left tackle to hit the open market. A longterm deal is in everybody's best interest to save cap space and give Glenn security. Glenn's agent, Pat Dye Jr. has a history of getting tagged players long term deals.

Whaley At Combine: Doug Whaley addressed the Buffalo media at the combine and the biggest tidbit that came out was that the team has begun talking to the representatives of Tyrod Taylor about seeing if they can come to a deal on a new contract that would benefit both sides. Whaley did say the team will definitely add a quarterback but are keeping all options open on how they will do it and how they will help their team as a whole. The Bills brass will meet with the reps for Cordy Glenn and Richie Incognito this week to see if they can come to longterm deals before they hit free agency. Whaley has confidence that they will get their cap siutation manageable so they can do what they need to do. The GM admitted they can't keep Mario Williams with his current cap figure but they will look at all options with him and he hasn't ruled out him coming back. Whaley acknowledged they can't keep all their free agents. They will also meet with the reps for players they want to extend like Stephon Gilmore, not just their free agents.

Bills Restructure Clay: As first reported by Sal Capaccio of WGR the Bills have now officially announced they have restructred the contract of Charles Clay to open up salary cap space. Doug Whaley confirmed the deal last night at the combine. The team does not release details of contracts but it is believed tehy likely converted his $10 Million roster bonus due March 11th to a signing bonus to spread it out over the final four years of his deal. This move would cut his $13.5 Million cap figure in half.

Report Says Clay Restructuring Near: Sal Capaccio of WGR reports that the team is close to restructuring Charles Clay's contract to save some cap space and are looking to restructure the deals of Leodis McKelvin and Corey Graham to open up more space. The Bills have the worst cap situation in the league and Capaccio says sources told him the team's top 51 players come to just over $157 Million in cap money with the 2016 cap expected to be around $155 Million. The report from WGR's Capaccio also says that the team will have an additional $4.4 Million in leftover cap money from last year. That would mean they are technically under the cap now but will need to free up more to tender restricted free agents and tag Cordy Glenn if they need to. A tender of Glenn however will not come off the cap until he signs it (or a longterm deal). Expect longterm deal talks to heat up between the Bills, Glenn, and Richie Incognito's people this week at the combine. The Clay restructuring his expected to convert a $10 Million roster bonus due March 11th to a signing bonus to spread it out over the final four years of his deal.

Combine Underway: The NFL combine is now underway and Rex Ryan addressed the media on Wednesday. He spoke about the defense is going to be "fully pregnant" in 2016 meaning they will be all in on his scheme. He is encouraged by the fact that the last two games they played better when they committed to his scheme. The coach would not elaborate on LeSean McCoy situation sticking by the team's statement that really didn't say anything. He said he would love to have Mario Williams back but acknowledges it might not happen because of their tough salary cap situation. Mario told Josina Anderson of ESPN that he is now willing to take a pay cut to stay with the Bills if they meet him halfway on the scheme. It still appears more likely he gets cut which would save $12.9 Million on the camp immediately and another $1.6 Million after June 1st if they cut him with that designation.

McCoy Involved In Altercation: Several reports are out that LeSean McCoy was involved in an altercation with off duty police officers over the weekend in Philadelphia. The reports say two officers were hospitalized after the incident and both suffered broken ribs. McCoy was reportedly with NFL RB Curtis Brinkley and the altercation was reportedly because of a dispute over the purchase of a bottle of champagne. At this time, McCoy has not been arrested.

Bills Ink Returner: The Bills had the worst return team in the league last year trying several players without any good results. They took a step to remedy that issue by signing former 2nd round draft pick Javier Arenas to a futures contract. Players with NFL experience can only sign reserve/future deals before the league calendar year starts on March 9th. Arenas was drafted by the Chiefs in 2010 and spent three years in Kansas City as a cornerback and returner. He played in Arizona in 2013 and Atlanta in 2014. He was with the Jets last summer but was released before the season started and has not been on an NFL roster since. He has 12 career starts in 60 total games. He has 143 tackles, five sacks, and two interceptions along with 24 passes defensed. As a returner he has 106 punt returns for 1,035 yards an average of 9.76 yards per return. He also has 73 kickoff returns for 1,541 yards, a 21.1 yard average per return.

Taylor Throws Three Picks: Richie Incognito, Tyrod Taylor, and Eric Wood were all members of Jerry Rice's team who lost to Michael Irvin's team 49-27 in last night's Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Taylor entered the game in the second half and threw three interceptions but did also throw the final touchdown pass of the game. It was a gorgeous 31 yard touchdown pass that Jarvis Landry, of division rival Miami, did a nice job coming down with and keeping his feet in the end zone. Taylor finished 8 of 14 passing for 120 yards and a 69.6 QB rating. He also ran the ball twice for 15 yards including an 11 yard run.
