Bills Make A Major Trade Getting McCoy For Alonso

McCoy Deal Done: Several reports say the Bills and LeSean McCoy have agreed to a new five year deal that will be signed when the trade becomes finalized at 4pm on Tuesday. Adam Schefter reports that his agent Drew Rosenhaus said it's a $40 Million deal with $26.5 Million guaranted and $16 Million in the first year. He would have made just over $10 Million this year with only around $1 Million in guaranteed money under his old Eagles deal. The move should free up salary cap space fore free agency. Contract Details.

Free Agency Rumors: Twitter is running rampant with rumors now that the negotiating period is underway for free agents. Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that the Bills are preparing a substantial offer for Miami TE Charles Clay. He does have the transition tag on him which means Miami would have the chance to match any offer. The report says the deal would be very tough for Miami to match. If they don't match an offer they receive no compensation. Charles Robinson of Yahoo says the Bills feel good about being able to keep Jerry Hughes. The Bills are trying hard to re-sign him before the market officially opens. Several other teams are interested in the top pass rusher on the market and reportedly the Jaguars are the Bills main competition. Robinson also reports the Jets, Giants, and Bears are also interested in Hughes. There are several teams reportedly interested in Bills free agents Da'Norris Searcy and C.J. Spiller. Neither player is expected back in Buffalo.

New Deal Reportedly For McCoy: Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reports the Bills and LeSean McCoy are close to a new deal that will make him very happy in Buffalo. He was going to count for over $10 Million against the cap this year. The new deal will be reportedly completed before the new league year starts and should give him more guaranteed money while lowering his cap value. That would free up money for signing more free agents and/or getting a new deal done with Jerry Hughes who still remains a priority for the team.

Free Agent Negotiating Period Begins: While free agency does not begin until 4pm on Tuesday today is the day teams can begin negotiating with other team's free agents although deals cannot be signed until free agency actually begins. Jerry Hughes will be looking to see his value as he gets ready to hit the market. The Bills were confident two weeks ago they would be able to retain him but since then they used a significant portion of their cap space in their deals for LeSean McCoy and Matt Cassel. They now have approximately $13 Million in cap space although they can free up more by releasing high priced veterans or restructuring contracts especially McCoy's and Mario Williams. A busy, zany period of time is about to start in the NFL and we will have all the news right here on our latest news page!

Bills Not Tendering Hairston: Mike Rodak of ESPN reports the Bills will not tender restricted free agent Chris Hairston making him an unrestricted free agent. There is always a chance the Bills can bring him back for less money. He has had an injury marred career in Buffalo and was their swing tackle last season. Front Office Page.

Bills Tender Offers: The Bills have tendered exclusive rights free agents Chris Hogan, Justin Brown, and Corbin Bryant the moves were expected as it keeps them with the Bills next year as they will have no other options. They did not tender kickoff specialist Jordan Gay. They have until Tuesday at 4pm to do so or he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Front Office Page.

Bills Make Deal For Cassel: The Bills continue to wheel and deal before free agency gets underway. Today they made a deal with the Minnesota Vikings to bring in QB Matt Cassel. The Bills reportedly will give the Vikings a fifth round pick this year and a 7th rounder next year for Cassel while getting a sixth rounder this year back in the deal. Like the LeSean McCoy trade it won't be official to the new NFL offseason gets underway on Tuesday at 4pm.

Spiller Gone: In a surreal twist of fate C.J. Spiller was getting ready to go on the set of the NFL Network's Total Access show when the news broke that the bills traded for LeSean McCoy. Spiller showed the class and professionalism we have grown to know and love in Buffalo saying that he's disappointed his time with the Bills has come to an end. He confirmed that a member of the Bills called him to thank him for his service and he also figured Chip Kelly has his agent's number. Josina Anderson reports that McCoy may not be happy about the deal and may not make it easy for the Bills. He may look to get a new contract before reporting to the team something that Jason LaCanfora reports the team is prepared for.

Bills Get McCoy! In a shocking trade the Bills have sent LB Kiko Alonso to the Philadelphia Eagles for RB LeSean McCoy. The Bills were able to play winning defense last year without Alonso who was out with a torn ACL and is now healthy. McCoy led the NFL in rushing two years ago. Running backs are under valued in the league by their are a few that are special and McCoy is one of they very few special ones. That clinches the end of C.J. Spiller in Buffalo. The deal was first reported by Adam Schefter and will become official next week when the new league year begins. McCoy will keep his salary as is, it was thought the Eagles would ask him to restructure his contract if he stayed in Philadelphia. McCoy didn't see eye to eye with Chip Kelly in Philadelphia according to reports.

Hughes Negotiations: The Buffalo News is reporting that there have been no new developments on contract talks between the Bills and Jerry Hughes. Doug Whaley said during the combine that he was very optimistic a deal would be struck to keep Hughes a member of the Bills. The team decided yesterday not to place a franchise or transition tag on the player. The Buffalo News also reports the two sides will meet again on Thursday. Hughes can start negotiating with other teams on Saturday in advance of the start of the free agency period one week from today.

Monday March 2, 2015

No Tag Used: Doug Whaley said in a statement today that the Bills have decided not to use a franchise or transition tag on any of their free agents. Jerry Hughes is now the top pass rusher on the free agent market after the Giants franchised Jason Pierre-Paul and the Chiefs franchised Justin Huston. Free agency begins on March 10th but players can being negotiating with other teams on Saturday. Whaley expressed optimism at the combine that Hughes wouldn't hit the market. It may be too tempting for him not to test the market at this point.

Tag Deadline Day: Today is the last day for NFL teams to place a franchise or transition tag on one of their unrestricted free agents. The only player the Bills are even contemplating at tagging is Jerry Hughes. At the scouting combine Doug Whaley expressed optimism a long term deal could be struck with Hughes keeping him off the market. If he still that optimistic it seems unlikely they will tag him. The deadline is 4pm to place a tag on a player.
