Bills Daily 2011 Mock Draft

For the 12th year in a row, Bills Daily tries to predict who the Bills will draft. Obviously these are just our best guesses along with some wishful thinking and we give you alternate picks if they players we want are gone already. If you want to do more research check our draft links.

Please e-mail us with your comments on our projections.

ROUND/PICK PREDICTION/ANALYSIS
1-3 (  #3 overall)   DT Marcell Dareus - Alabama This appears to be the team's top choice after QB Cam Newton who will likely go number one overall. This could be wishful thinking as Dareus has a very good chance to go number two to Denver. The Broncos may trade the pick to a team that needs a QB or go with CB Patrick Peterson. If Dareus and Newton are gone, OLB Von Miller is the logical next choice.
2-2 ( #34 overall)    QB Christian Ponder - Florida St. There is likely a 50-50 shot he's still here at this point. I believe this is the guy they want. They coached him at the Senior Bowl and then had him up for a visit. He played in a pro style offense in college and is the most game ready. I am absolutely convinced they will take a QB with their 2nd pick. If there is a run on them they may try to trade back into the first round to get one. If they stay put and Ponder is gone Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick may be their next choice. Washington's Jake Locker could still be around but likely not. TCU's Andy Dalton also could go here.
3-4 (#68 overall)    TE Lance Kendricks - Wisconsin The never ending search for a big play tight end continues and Kendricks could be a steal in round three. A poor Senior Bowl has him slipping but he has the talent to be a nice offensive threat.
4-3 (#100 overall)    OT Jason Pinkston - Pittsburgh This guy comes highly recommended by his former college coach who happens to be the new Bills assistant head coach Dave Wannstedt. They could go with a front seven defensive player here as well.
4-25 (#122 overall)    ILB Colin McCarthy - Miami The team needs depth at the linebacker position and McCarthy is another versatile backer who can play up and down the line.
5-2 (#133 overall)    OLB Ross Homan - Ohio St. The team needs some depth at outside linebacker as well and Homan brings it. The Buckeyes have produced some very good linebackers over the years and Homan could be the next in that line.
6-4 (#169 overall)    DE Brandon Blair - Oregon The Bills will continue to build up depth on defense with this pick. Blair is a very tall end who may be able to bounce inside in a 4-3 defensive scheme.
7-3 (#206 overall)    CB Chris L. Rucker - Michigan St. Rucker brings a lot of Big 10 college experience as he started 34 games for the Spartans. He could help with the depth at corner which may be hurt by free agency when it starts.
7-42 (#245 overall)    OT Willie Smith - East Carolina Smith is a project player who may be worth the time because he has all the intangibles to be a solid tackle in the NFL with some experience and coaching.
