Bills Daily 2009 Mock Draft

For the tenth year in a row, Bills Daily tries to predict who the Bills will draft. Obviously these are just our best guesses along with some wishful thinking and we give you alternate picks if they players we want are gone already. If you want to do more research check our draft links.

Please e-mail us with your comments on our projections.

ROUND/PICK PREDICTION/ANALYSIS
1-11 ( #11 overall)   DE Brian Orakpo - Texas Defensive end is the position that the Bills have identified as their biggest need. If he's gone, they may go with Everette Brown or turn to offensive tackle and take Michael Oher.
1-28 ( #28 overall)    OT William Beatty - Connecticut The Bills will likely try to fill their right tackle position with the first pick acquired from Philadelphia for Jason Peters. Beatty should be available here. The only hinge here may be if Brandon Pettigrew is still available. It may be wishful thinking that the best tight end in the draft falls this far. With the Falcons trading for Tony Gonzalez the possibility now exists that he will still be on the board at #28. If he is, it will be too hard for the Bills to pass him up.
2-10 (#42 overall)    TE Jared Cook - South Carolina Assuming Pettigrew isn't there at #28, the Bills may fill the need here with Cook who is the pass receiving tight end they need. Other possible choices here are to shore up the middle of the offensive line with C Max Unger G Duke Robinson.
3-11 (#75 overall)    OLB Cody Brown - Connecticut Can the Bills select two Huskies? Possibly, Brown is a tweener that could play defensive end as well which means he may be able to fill two needs. Ohio State's Marcus Freeman is also a possibility in this spot at this position.
4-10 (#110 overall)    G Trevor Canfield - Cincinnati He's a smaller guard just over 300 pounds. That is something the Bills like from their guards so they can get out and pull. Another possibility here would be Wisconsin's Kraig Urbik who's a bit bigger.
4-21 (#121 overall)    DT Mitch King - Iowa He's an overachiever and small, something the Bills like from their defensive tackles. He is a project that they can groom next to Marcus Stroud. LSU's Ricky Jean-Francois is a possibility here as well. He's a bit bigger than King.
5-11 (#147 overall)    CB Brandon Hughes - Oregon State The converted wide receiver fits the mold of small, fast corners that the Bills seem to love. Virginia Tech's Victor Harris is another corner slotted to go around this time.
6-10 (#183 overall)    SS Jamarca Sanford - Mississippi The Bills may be looking for competition and depth at this spot and adding a safety isn't out of the question over here. Sanford is a heavy hitter and a four year starter. They may look at any position here for depth.
7-11 (#220 overall)    FB Brannan Southerland - Georgia The Bills only have one fullback on the roster so selecting one in the draft is a possibility. He's a hard worker who is an outstanding blocker and can catch passes. Something the Bills will love.
