Our 53 Man Roster
What we think the final roster will be

We figure we'd take a stab at the final 53 man roster. It is really a 54 man roster as Marshawn Lynch will not count until he comes off of his suspension after week 3. The number we think they'll keep at each position is in parenthesis.

Quarterback (3): Trent Edwards, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Gibran Hamdan

Outlook: This is the easiest spot for the decision makers.

Runningback (3): Fred Jackson, Dominic Rhodes, Xavier Omon

Outlook: When Lynch comes back someone may go. The only way the fullback Corey McIntyre sticks would be because of his special teams play. They don't really use a fullback, that is why he got work carrying the ball in preseason.

Wide Receiver (6): Terrell Owens, Lee Evans, Josh Reed, Roscoe Parrish, Stevie Johnson, Justin Jenkins

Outlook: Jenkins makes it because of his special teams play and is development at receiver this preseason. James Hardy will likely go on PUP which means he would miss 6-10 weeks while recovering from his knee injury.

Tight Ends (4): Derek Schouman, Derek Fine, Shawn Nelson, Jonathan Stupar

Outlook: They will keep four because of Fine's hamstring injury and they have the luxury if they are carrying only three backs and 8 on the OL.

Offensive Line (8): Langston Walker, Eric Wood, Geoff Hangartner, Andy Levitre, Brad Butler, Demetrius Bell, Seth McKinney, Kirk Chambers.

Outlook: They have tremendous versatility among the backups as they play multiple positions meaning keeping eight is possible.

Defensive Line (9): Aaron Schboel, Marcus Stroud, Kyle Williams, Chris Kelsay, Spencer Johnson, Aaron Maybin, Copeland Bryan, John McCargo, Chris Ellis

Outlook: They could keep eight here but keeping fewer on offense opens up the room to keep some of the extra depth they have at end. Ryan Denney would be a surprise cut in this scenario.

Linebacker (7): Kawika Mitchell, Paul Posluszny, Keith Ellison, Nic Harris, Alvin Bowen, Marcus Buggs, Jon Corto

Outlook: Here also they can afford to keep one extra at the position. That is Corto for his special teams prowess. Bowen barely beats out Ashlee Palmer for a roster spot because of Palmer's injury this preseason. Palmer would be destined for the practice squad. There is no experience in the backups so signing someone off the waiver wire is possible.

Defensive Backs (10): Terrence McGee, Leodis McKelvin, Donte Whitner, Bryan Scott, Reggie Corner, Drayton Florence, Ellis Langster, George Wilson, Jairus Byrd, John Wendling.

Outlook: They could choose to keep 11 here if they think Florence will still be sidelined awhile. That means they would keep one less linebacker or defensive linemen. Ko Simpson and Ashton Youboty are the odd men out in this scenario. Youboty is always hurt and Simpson has seemed to fall out of favor with the team. Wendling makes at a special teamer but he could lose out to Simpson for that roster spot.

Special Teams (3): Rian Lindell, Brian Moorman, Garrison Sanborn

Outlook: An experienced long snapper off the waiver wire is a possibility.
